Michael was with us for a short 25 years, yet we are so thankful to God for those blessed years. Michael Richard Perich, son of Michael and Marian (Sokol) Perich, brother of Susan Perich was born on September 28, 1983. Michael gave us so much joy and love; his strong character and positive outlook on life only become stronger as the years passed. He continues to influence those who knew and loved him still. Michael was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, attended Center Area Schools and graduated from Center High in 2002. He enjoyed participating in many athletics; in high school he participated in both sprinting and discus. This combination is not typical in Track and Field but Michael was both strong as well as swift, earning accolades in both events. While at Center High, Michael fell in love with being a “predator” on the football field; his speed and strength served him well as he excelled in his position at middle linebacker. Around this time, he discovered that if he applied discipline to himself and invested his time in working on his body, eating healthy foods and lifting weights he would be rewarded by having more fun on the gridiron.
Michael chose to serve by working for a company that contracts work with the U.S. Navy. In addition to serving his country, this position gave him the opportunity to travel as well as to learn new and improve upon many skills, for example, sky diving, master of scuba diving, learning new techniques for driving boats and cars. He also earned his advanced certification as a diving medical technician.
Michael was last heard from was on September 28, 2008, which was also Michael’s 25th birthday. He and three crewmates were lost somewhere in the South China Sea; the four men are each represented by one of the four nautical stars on the Crusaders in America logo. The eagle on the logo and the oak leaves are meant to represent strength. The anchor symbolizes hope. Michael’s faith in God, devotion to our country, love and loyalty to friends and family, his desire to help others and serve a cause greater than his own self-interest are the inspiration for us to carry on his legacy. We miss conversations with Michael, his passionate opinions, his jokes, his laugh and wonderful smile. Michael was always the guy we could count on to lend a hand and help anyone in need. Those of us who love Michael wish that he never be forgotten. We want his memory to be carried on in a manner of which he would be proud.
